Dream meanings: what the images are saying

Dreams rarely speak in words; they speak in scenes. The exam room you cannot find, the tooth that falls out, someone chasing you. STARLOT does not hand you "dreaming of X means Y". It breaks the dream you wrote into its images and gives you two readings side by side.

Two readings, side by side

  1. 1

    Traditional symbols

How traditional Chinese dream interpretation, in the line of the Duke of Zhou, reads each image. Where tradition calls something ominous, it becomes something to pay attention to.

  2. 2

    The psychological view

What the same image commonly means in modern psychology: stress, unfinished business, something you want.

  3. 3

    Back to now

The images are tied together, with how you felt on waking, into one or two concrete, doable reminders.

Your reading comes in three parts

  • Key images: two to four of them, each with its traditional reading and psychological meaning
  • What the dream is saying: the images tied together
  • For you, now: one or two concrete reminders

This much is enough

e.g. I was sitting an exam but could not find the room, and the more I ran the more panicked I got…

The more detail the better: the place, who was there, what happened, how you felt when you woke. Leave out other people’s private details.

How to use it

  1. 1

Sign in and open Ask → Dream Reading

  2. 2

Write the dream (8 to 600 characters): where you were, who was there, what happened

  3. 3

Optionally pick how you felt on waking: Scared, Anxious, Sad, Happy, Calm, Confused

  4. 4

Tap, and the reading appears section by section

What it will not do

  • No prophecy, and nothing like "an omen of disaster"
  • No medical or psychological diagnosis
  • If a dream involves self-harm, being harmed or recurring nightmares, it gently suggests talking to someone you trust or a professional

Dream reading draws on traditional symbols and psychology. It is not a prophecy and not a medical or psychological diagnosis. If nightmares keep coming back or affect your sleep or mood, please talk to a professional.
